Book Launch: The Great Trek
‘The Great Trek of the Transport Party, Mexico (1825–26): A Tale of Tragedy and Triumph’
This year marks the 20th anniversary of inscription of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site on the UNESCO World Heritage List, a landmark that also coincides with the bicentenary of Cornish steam technology reaching Mexico - a development that profoundly shaped the revival of some of the country’s most renowned silver mines.
This story is told in the new book ‘The Great Trek of the Transport Party, Mexico (1825–26): A Tale of Tragedy and Triumph’, by Dr Sharron P. Schwartz, which celebrates this shared heritage of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site.
The World Heritage Site Partnership Board are proud to support the publication of this new work and the Partnership Chair, Caroline Mott, cordially invites you to its launch at Kresen Kernow, Redruth, on Thursday 28th May 2026.
This authoritative new book uses groundbreaking research to present this remarkable story in depth, celebrating its importance as a shared chapter of Cornish and Mexican industrial history and highlighting the global reach of mining innovation originating from the heart of Cornwall.
There will be refreshments on offer, and we look forward to you joining us to celebrate the publication of this significant new work and the rich heritage it highlights.
Spaces are limited and booking is essential via this Eventbrite link - thank you.
