Ecological Audit

The Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site is a Serial Property (or Site) comprising ten separate Areas, each with distinctive characteristics. These Areas have much in common however, being inscribed (i.e., designated) for the various landscape features that resulted from past hard-rock mining.

These landscape features are described as ‘Attributes’ and individually and collectively they express the Outstanding Universal Value (OUV), or international importance, of the World Heritage Site (WHS). There are seven Attribute types within the WHS, all of which can support nature in one form or another.

The Ecological Audit explores the potential role of both the Attributes of OUV and the inherent landscape character of the WHS Areas in supporting biodiversity. It identifies the main features that contribute to this and describes some of the likely habitats and species that utilise these ecosystems across the WHS.
