St Just (town)
St Just is a town built on mining. It is also a good, accessible starting point for a visit to the wider St Just Mining District.
From the free car park you can explore the town’s mining past simply by walking around the nearby streets and Market Square. Along the way you will pass rows of miner’s cottages and the larger houses of managers and merchants as well shops, pubs and public buildings. Many of the elements that made up the home lives of miners and their families can be found in St Just, for example the impressive Wesleyan Methodist Chapel and the grass playing place (Plain-an-gwary), an open space in the heart of the town where people gathered for plays, games and celebrations.
St Just has good access and facilities for a range of visitors. The roads around the town centre and car park are relatively level with only slight gradients. The granite pavements are flat and even and have dropped kerbs, but they can be narrow in places. There are also plenty of opportunities to sit down and take in the character of the town.
